Milestone for Wings of Discovery Early Years resources

July 28, 2009

More than 1,000 sets of the Wings of Discovery® Early Years Program, a unique, Canadian learning resource for early years educators, have been sold across Canada.

Wings of Discovery logoDeveloped by Let's Talk Science and launched five years ago, the Wings of Discovery Early Years Program is a one-of-a-kind learning resource in which children develop skills such as language, numeracy, cognitive, social, physical and motor, while exploring the world through science. The program is currently utilized in early years centres from coast-to-coast, and as far north as Inuvik, N.W.T.

A significant number of sales of the Program have been to Aboriginal Head Start programs in communities across the country.

“As a strong advocate for early learning and, in particular, education that fosters exploration through science, I am happy that this unique program has been taken up by so many Aboriginal communities, because I know that the children have fun and at the same time gain enormous educational benefits from the Wings program,” says Senator Lillian E. Dyck, Chair, Let’s Talk Science National Aboriginal Advisory Council.

Let’s Talk Science is currently developing new resources to expand Wings of Discovery to align with contemporary teaching philosophies that focus on play-based learning. All Wings of Discovery Early Years resources are easily incorporated into a collaborative learning environment, and allow for a child’s interests and curiosities to guide the learning pathway.

Science explorations help children to develop problem-solving skills, build confidence and enhance literacy and numeracy skills.
